Ship of fools was a term for folks who refused to accept or seek wisdom and change. Dont sail this ship brothers and sisters. Strive for peace love truth and beauty. Love you

As I get older, the words of this song are steadily making more and more sense.

Tears of joy. Many memories resurfaced listening to RP. The 80’s were the best of times.

When this album came out in 1988 I was 14 and I bought the cd I was a Zep fan so I ran right out. The thing that struck me the most about this album was the amazing engineering, I had never heard something so crisp and clean, every instrument standing on its own at a high volume.

This song is sooo under rated. It struck me the first time I heard it and it is still one of the most beautiful songs I know.

Robert Plant does not get the credit he deserves for being a great lyricist and poet.  This song is an example of his brilliant writing.

Ive seen the sultan sea and had a log of miles you couldn't believe... If you could feel this song radiate in time with the sun on the Colorado river... Feel the redwoods breathe around you... Stare into that vast expanse at the grand canyon... Drove the hiway 1 and touched a tire into the ocean at Pismo... This song has guided me everywhere ive been...

  • "Ship Of Fools" On waves of love my heart is breaking And stranger still my self control I can't rely on anymore New tides surprise - my world it's changing Within this frame an ocean swells - behind this smile I know it well Beneath a lover's moon I'm waiting I am the pilot of the storm - adrift in pleasure I may drown I built this ship - it is my making And furthermore my self control I can't rely on anymore I know why - I know why Crazy on a ship of fools Crazy on a ship of fools Turn this boat around - back to my loving ground Who claims that no man is an island While I land up in jeopardy - more distant from you by degrees I walk this shore in isolation And at my feet eternity draws ever sweeter plans for me I know why - I know why Crazy on a ship of fools Crazy on a ship of fools Turn this boat around - back to my loving ground Oh no, oh no - ship of fools --

Doug Boyle's guitar playing on this is superb.had the chance to get to meet him round Maurine's house back in the early nineties.and a great collaboration of writers. Robert is great.

My favorite Robert Plant tune. Phil Johnstone & Robert wrote it, what a collaboration!
