What’s the movie Dreamgirls about?
During a local talent contest in 1962 Detroit, Michigan, Curtis Taylor, Jr. (Jamie Foxx) meets The Dreamettes, an R&B act composed of three girls, Effie White (Jennifer Hudson), Deena Jones (Beyoncé Knowles), and Lorrell Robinson (Anika Noni Rose). He offers them to become the backup singers for headliner James 'Thunder' Early (Eddie Murphy). They take the gig and soon find out that Curtis has now taken over their lives. Their first professional show is at the Apollo Theatre in New York City. Effie's brother, C.C. White (Keith Robinson) is a talented songwriter who begins to write songs for Early and the group. Using the talents of C.C., Curtis decides to change their style from R&B music to pop music and to go out on their own. Curtis also moves the beautiful Deena to the lead singer spot and moves Effie to backup. Now called 'The Dreams,' they become a top-selling mainstream pop group. However, their new fame will also bring them all sorts of problems as they will have to deal with jealousy and tensions inside the group.

Obviously Curtis missed the hint in Effie's song otherwise he wouldn't be so shocked to see his daughter. In "And I am telling you" when she said "We share the same blood..." she was basically telling him she was pregnant.

The little girl crying watching her momma is so real because I feel like I would be crying too if I got to see my mom get her dream

Curtis finally found out the real treasure he’d missed out on.

I LOVED the whole movie ; but this scene right here !!!❤ Everytime I watch this movie , it makes me cry 😢. All of the girls are fantastic singers , but the creators casting Jennifer Hudson to play the role of Effie White , certainly knew what they were doing ; she was excellent ❤❤ . An academy award performance .❤❤❤❤

  • When I was 19, I remember I was supposed to see this movie with my boyfriend, but he stood me up that night. I decided to see the movie anyway and that ended up being the best thing ever. ❤

When this movie came out I was worried it wouldn't hold true to the Broadway production, which was spectacular in its day. The movie was perfectly casted and exceptionally well done. I saw it... the first time... with my brother and his wife. When the entire theatre erupted in applause, before this song ended, I glanced at him and got that "don't even think about it" look, still clapping I jumped up, "You go girl, you go Effie!". I'm changing an underrated song, dropped my first tear and I was balling when I saw Effie's daughter crying.
  • I love that look on Jamie Foxx face when you seen his daughter for the first time it was priceless the movie is self and active and actress or beautiful I think y'all should make another movie and name it after the dream so we can know what happened when Jamie found out that was his daughter keep on coming I'm a fan from Arkansas
