  • Your through review of this locomotive helped me to buy several of these units thanks
  • @SeaboardCentral
Awesome review Derek! Showing the locomotive in actual operating conditions puts this review over the top. Thanks for sharing! Tim

Always looking forward to seeing your reviews. So much better than most I've seen. This review is awesome, because you show the locomotive in action

Athearn really did an outstanding job on this unit. The prime mover sounds are great. Thanks for another awsome review.

Great review! I love these baby tunnel motors. The Athearn team did an amazing job!
  • Thanks Deryk.Really love that SLOW speed crawl, as well. These tsunami 2s are getting good at motor control, too.I reckon its the slow speed smoothness sorts out the OK locos from the excellent locos. Thanks again Michael NZ
  • I really like that cab interior. Also I like your running around at the end. Very fine locomotive !!!!

This was a great review without all the hype and "BS" Christmas Morning excitement. I'd call it a "mature review". Great job, DG. Looks like Athearn really nailed this one. Hope Intermountain does as well with the GP16 I have ordered to fit my Seaboard System era (1985). Thanks again.
  • That's a very nice engine smooth running, I like the drone shot of the operations it sounded and pulled nice

Thanks. Like your videos. Appreciate the balanced headlight and ditch light brightness, but disappointed the number boards don’t light. They achieved so much with their pre G2 SD60e with TSU2 (head, tail, ditch, #board, and ground lights) don’t understand why that isn’t the case with subsequent releases like this loco.

Great review! Nice detail on these Athearns! I'm so glad you did the silent run, not very many reviewers do that. It does seem a bit noisier that my Atlas Master locos and ScaleTrains. I have an Athearn Genesis GP9 that was really loud when I got it, but after a few hours of running it is much better. Not as quiet as some of my Atlas Masters or ScaleTrains. I agree with you that Atlas needs to up their game in the detail department. regards, NS.

Hi DGlass77, what a beautiful locomotive. I want one of these in UP, but they sell out so fast every time they announce them lol. Very cool video, thanks for sharing, - Dave B.
  • In Real life only 4 major roads bought these 1500HP Units. EMD though it would be a Big seller for many railroads to trade in their tired 1st Gen GP7/9/18 units and surviving F-Units and even SW/NW Switchers for new GP15-1 using as many parts as possible to help with the coast. But as always the economy and timing didn't make it the big sales winner EMD was hoping for, just 310 sold. With all the old Geeps and SW's out there I can see how EMD thought they could sell hundreds of these maybe 1000+ ? 160, MP to UP 100, CR To CSX/ NS all sold now 25, CNW to UP 25, Frisco to BN all retired or traded Union Pacific inherited 185 units from MP & CNW and a good percentage are still in use with UP.
