I save all pre 83 pennies and separate them in by decade. 50's 60's 70's and 80 81 and 82's. When I was growing up pre 65 silver dimes and quarters were given back in change constantly. That being said that was the last precious metals that we had in common coinage. Now copper pennies are the new precious metals of future collectors. Zinc pennies will never have a precious metal value. So anything pre 83 will in the future have value other than the condition of the coin. Just watch and see. Won't happen soon but 10-20 or 30 years from now they will be worth much more just due to the metal content.
  • In other news, Happy hunting to all who participate in this modern day mining adventure. May we all find a rare error one day and know our time was well spent : ) To Mr Couch Collectibles: I am considering becoming a coin grader. Have you ever become one? If so, any advice? Secondly, I've heard there are bags of pennies you can order from a bank, is this true?
  • Started checking my change again because of you my Dad taught me coin collecting but got out of it now after 15 or so years I've jumped back in the game because of your videos I'm 24 now

You forgot to add in the cost of melting the pennies. And it is legal to melt as long as you aren't melting for profit. What you can do is melt them into figurines and sell them for the value of your craftsmanship, which has nothing to do with the value of the copper itself.
  • I have two that are blank although you could almost see a wheat back on one. Are those just blanks or errors and do they hold value?
  • I don't even bother collecting the new shield cents. There is nothing appealing to me about them
  • I imagine an alternate universe in which pennies and dimes flip in size and pennies are copper-nickel and dimes are copper plated zinc.
