It's true, thanks to the generosity of viewer Paul, I have a 2002 Peugeot 106 Independence, and I've named it 'Dumpit'. Why? You'll have to watch and find out (that's kinda the deal...)

The plan? To run this car on a very tight budget! How tight? Oh, you'll have to wait and see!

  • Yes yes yes budget motoring at its finest!! My mate bought one brand new in 2001 just when the then new '51' reg came out. We ridiculed him at the time but within an hour we all ate our words. For a 1.1 it was a flyer. Even 4 up loaded for the coast on a Friday night it was brilliant. Suprisingly torquey again for a 1.1. It would lean for weeks in the corners but never understeered or was ever in danger of rolling. These and the saxo are from a time when car were fun. Fun colours , Blue door cards , blue dials or green carpets with funky as hell seat patterns truly wonderful. Well done Richard. You've scored. Long live dumpit.

106 FTW. Love the Dumpit concept
  • I had an old Nissan estate back in the 90's it cheaper to buy that than hire a van to remove the overgrown garden i had taken over. I cant remember the model (think it may have been numbers) but it was bigger than the bluebird. Everyone used to use that car for garden and rubbish tip runs, the keys where above the sun visor and the only rules were park it back were you found it and it must half half a tank of fuel in it. I kept it for 10 months sold it for a fair bit more than i paid for it and I only ever needed to put fuel in it maybe twice in that 10 months! Bless the use it and abuse it car! The Dumpits of this world deserve recognition ❤

Worked for that particular dealer many moons ago and drove that particular awesome Saxo 👍 total little legend that refused to die and went and did everything without any fuss, remember the heater was dead by the end,,,,
  • My beloved «Dumpit» is a four door Citroën C1 low spec with nothing but an aftermarket central locking that is working now after four years of ownership. I love my little car. For me it is the 2CV I can’t afford. But faster! Thanks Rich for your long videos. I like listening to you and your philosophy. It’s soothing and inspiring. See you soon. With Dumpit… Take care »»» Martin 🚗⚡️🔥💨🇫🇷

Starts, stops, goes round corners. What more do you need? Looks good to me!
  • That is what I call a dependability car. No matter the day or night, it will get you there with no fuss or muss. I love the name Dump It. Heck I love the car from here. Love the blue door cards and interior. All you need is a smily face sticker for the rear window. Man the car gods are smiling on you. Cheers and Go Dump It!
  • In mid 2001 I was given an identical 106 Independence, but on a Y plate, as a courtesy car when my Xantia was in having accident damage repaired. Long story, but they managed to cock up the repair of my Xantia so I had the 106 for far longer than I should have done. Due to my general annoyance at them messing up my own car I absolutely thrashed their 106 for the whole time I had it, but it took it all totally in its stride and I grew to like it. It still managed to average 40 MPG even when driven with no sympathy whatsoever!
  • First car was a 106 1.4 diesel. Diesel was 90p/l back then so pretty frugal. It was incredibly slow but bomb proof and oh the body roll. Young drivers don’t know how good they’ve got it now!

My first car was an L reg 106 1.1 XN graduate (cat) 3 Dr. Dark blue with the graduate markings including pink stripe. It was very basic inside, it didnt even have a light in the boot, or a cigarette lighter. But, it was only £200 back in 2005 and had only done 73k, and still had MOT. It was a great first car and I loved every minute of driving it, even with the leaky heater matrix that would piss coolant over my left foot! 😅 I replaced it with a K reg 306 1.6 XR complete with beige velour interior..
  • Wife had an L reg Mardis Gras. Brilliant little car that took us all round Ireland on a camping trip without fault. Comfy and nippy.

17'58"... The upholstery is the French attempt to draw a Dalek...

I knew a guy who ran a red metallic 106 1,1 mk2 for a while, and i was regularly a passenger in it.. I really liked that little car. While not fantastic at 80km/h or above, in cities and on smaller country roads, it was fun. Congratulations, and best of luck with.
  • I had one of those, R-Reg, white, diesel 1.5 and it was such a beast. Drove through heavy snow and ice in the hills around Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands back in 2013 where newer, better cars got stuck. Got wrote off by a woman pulling out on me.
  • This is just brilliant! I love Dumpit, I love the story, and I look forward to more updates!
  • I drive a 1998 106 XND diesel , very basic with no electronics ! Very frugal on fuel but the engine is not the quietest , had it for 6 months ,done a few jobs and it passed the mot. Yes , keeping this one ! Just subscribed, hello !

Working in the Auto Wrecking Industry, I'm used to seeing Dumpits. The thing is that I'm New Mexico where cars simply do not rust so they're not really Dumpits. Crushed a few R-10 Renault's this morning. It's part of the Job😮😢!
  • I had a 1.1 106 and a Quiksilver with a 1.6 vtr engine which at the time was my dream car. I absolutely love the simplicity of 106's and id love to have my old quiksilver back. Bought the 1.1 for £80 with a headgasket issue

Gotta love a car that just does the job and has no delusions of grandeur. I used to work in Winchester, so I’m familiar with the parking situation. To save money I parked my car in wasteland behind the prison, when my employer learned of this they paid for a Park & Ride permit.
