SUPER long Amtrak California Zephyr at Martinez

Published 2024-01-24
The chilly, but sunny morning of January 7th of 2024. Martinez, California, U.S.A. A surprising event occurs on Amtrak's California Zephyr. Amtrak train 6 to Chicago departed Emeryville with some extra cars (4 coach cars and 1 lounge car) P42 duo in tow, making the train length more longer than its usual 7 car to 13 cars long. The spare equipment was to stay on until Denver's Union Station in Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. to be used on Amtrak's Winter Park Express (Amtrak's Ski Train)
Here, the train arrives at Martinez station on time to later depart with AMTK170 on point, AMTK51, AMTK142 & AMTK192 to continue east to Chicago.

In Sept. of 2018 I got on right here and took the train all the way to Chicago. Three days and two nights in my own roomette. I loved it and...don't even consider taking a long train ride like that without your own room. It is necessary for privacy, sleeping, and changing clothes. Bathrooms and showers were 25 feet away on bottom floor of sleeper car.

  • I definitely wish I couldā€™ve seen this previously for one of my best observations to start off 2024 right.

I remember catching that at Pinhole with my friends! It was fun to catch it.
  • I filmed this train as well. It was a good one to catch. You got some good shots!
