Annie Lennox made a surprise appearance at the Polar Music Prize Banquet 2017.

Sting and Wayne Shorter received the Polar Music Prize on June 15, 2017 at a ceremony at Konserthuset Stockholm in Sweden.

Several artists honored the Laureates together with the The Royal Stockholm Philarmonic Orchestra, led by maestro Hans Ek. One exceptional highlight of the evening was Annie Lennox surprising Sting by attending the evening. To honour him, Lennox performed Sting's ”Fragile”.

José Feliciano also read the citation for Sting (   • Sting receives the Polar Music Prize ...  ):
"The 2017 Polar Music Prize is awarded to the singer, musician and composer Sting, real name Gordon Sumner, from Wallsend in Northumberland. Sting grew up in a shipyard town in northeastern England. As a child his thoughts and dreams roamed as far as the ships that sailed from his town. Internal and external travel has also characterised his music. As a member of the trio The Police, and later as a solo artist, Sting has never sat back and rested on his laurels; he has put down his anchor in more musical harbours than perhaps any other artist of his generation. As a composer, Sting has combined classic pop with virtuoso musicianship and an openness to all genres and sounds from around the world. Sting is a true citizen of the world, who has also been indefatigable in using his position as an arena-filling artist to promote human rights."

The Polar Music Prize was founded in 1989 by the late Stig ”Stikkan” Anderson, one of the true greats in the history of popular music. As the publisher, lyricist and manager of ABBA, he played a key role in their enormous success. Its name stems from Anderson’s legendary record label, Polar Music.

The Polar Music Prize is one of the most prestigious and unique music prizes in the world, crossing over musical boundaries and awarded to individuals, groups and institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements.

  • The talent of Annie Lennox is only eclipsed by how gracious she has always carried herself. Great tribute for Sting

This is not just a superstar singing her rendition of another superstar 's song. This is a friend giving a priceless gift to another friend...and that's even more valuable. ❤
  • @tristantupaz
I suddenly broke out in tears....and it is already 2024...OMG

Annie Lennox has a genius IQ and the voice of a Siren. I would shipwreck myself to see her in concert again. Wrapped in what looked like leopard skin, feral and fearless, she tore the roof off the Orpheum. She's right up there with Paul Rodgers and Freddie, a rock goddess, born from original sin. She redeems us every time she sings a note. I hope she lives forever.

The privilege is not only Annie's, it's Sting's also. Doesn't matter how big you are, if Annie Lennox is performing your song it's such a huge privilege.
  • The Eurythmics and The Police were the music of my youth, this is making me sad. I'm so grateful and glad to have been in my 20's in the 80's.

No matter what is going in our lives , no matter how ugly it gets , music like this will always transport us to a very beautiful place 🙏
  • @TheJellymonty
Sting's face was the best part of this entire performance. His genuine emotion got me. Anne nailed it perfectly.
  • @Ticonderous1
I feel blessed to have lived i a world where Sting gave us his amazing talents...

Holy f*****g shit. She just came out of nowhere, sat by the piano, played it like Chopin while singing one of the most touching songs in history with such a deeply sad and emotional voice, absolutely nailing it, making Sting cry, just minutes after he said "WOW" when she entered the stage - this just has to be the definition of pure art. Annie You ROCK!!!
  • when someone like a Voice judge tells a contestant - you don't connect to the song, I always go back to this video. Annie at one point started to sound like she is pushing back tears, knowing she needs to go on with the performance. To all you haters - this is what pure raw emotion sounds like and if you don't like it - please go back to your autotuned world, take your dislikes and hateful comments with you and let us enjoy the pure talent that is Annie Lennox.
  • Speechless -not only her voice and interpretation of Sting's song but also her incredible piano playing - such a compelling performance.
  • @rcelski3891
Her voice is like a warm towel fresh from the dryer after a shower in the dead of winter. Love them both
  • @dalymc
She made him cry, I think that shows how good this version was.
  • She moves me to tears with her hauntingly beautiful voice. She gives me goosebumps. I love you Annie Lennox.
  • @_kmCarter
Sting’s version is bittersweet, but Annie’s is bone-chilling and post-apocalyptic. Shattering. Beautiful.
  • omg....this is a devastating performance.... the drama Annie Lennox put in music is UNIQUE
