Trump shooting: Secret Service, FBI testify before Senate on assassination attempt | LIVE

Published 2024-07-30
Just a few weeks after an assassination attempt of former U.S. president Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Penn., officials from the U.S. Secret Service and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

The Secret Service’s newest acting director, Ronald L. Rowe Jr., is expected to be probed about law enforcement lapses hours before the attempted assassination.

Rowe Jr. succeeded Kimberly Cheatle as acting director just last week, after she stepped down. Cheatle’s resignation followed a volatile House hearing in which she was berated by lawmakers after failing to answer specific questions about communication failures preceding the July 13 shooting.

A day after the FBI released new information about its investigation – which revealed that the 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, had researched information about mass shootings and assassination attempts – the agency’s deputy director, Paul Abbate, is also slated to testify before the House.
