Is Genshin Impact Stagnating? | Exploring why the community is so divided.

The Genshin Impact community has felt pretty agitated lately. 😤 The game is going on four years old now, and things are starting to feel... formulaic.

We know what to expect from the game now. 3 months of archon quests, lantern rite, then some dry patches and side stories until we make it to the next region.

Do you think Genshin is starting to feel formulaic? Do you think there's enough variety? What type of content would you like to see?

3 years in and still no OPTIONAL co-op Abyss style content...

In my opinion with the chronicle wish banner was a good idea but poorly executed. Like these characters and weapons are old, if they would get a rerun they won't rly sell. So if they won't sell, just make the whole banner more accessible. You already have to save months for the normal limited banner and you have to make decisions if you want to skip or pull for characters, so having another banner with basically the same pity system on top makes it even harder especially since fate points don't carry over
  • Ahh yes, the yearly "genshin over" period. I deffinitly haven't seen this 3 times already.

My biggest issue is how much you lose (commissions, event rewards) if you take a break. So when you're burnt out and it's a slow patch, the game starts feeling like a chore. Instead of just taking a break for a few months, you keep playing because of FOMO on premium currency for when the game is engaging again. Hoyo is paying you to keep its player number/play time up, and it becomes a literal daily job. No wonder people feel resentment during these patches every year.

My only gripes is still NO ARCHIVE CUTSCENE, NO DIALOG LOG, and NO SKIP DIALOG button. Sometimes I just wanna rush things first to at least clear the time limited content because of busy schedule, but due to lack of skip button and archive those things can be really annoying. I don't wanna sit for minutes and even hours in my very tight schedule just to clear event, yet when I finally have time to be able to relive the story there's no place for it (except YouTube, but the experience is really different than in-game itself)

The Dehya part is facts. They purposefully mess the kit up.
  • Not having dialogue skip option was definitely out of pure spite and they even start to make dialogues longer when people ask for skip button. I once put the game on auto-play option, went to the kitchen and cooked a small dish because I got hungry while playing. I ate it, wash all the dish and cooking pan and returned. And the dialogue is still f**king running.

One thing I find annoying about the game is the character interactions it’s like the characters can’t have a bad thing to say about each other or even if they do they’re still somehow cordial and amicable with each other.

The reason I stopped playing (and before that, enjoying) Genshin is more because of its grindy nature. It took me MONTHS to get a single character built (including two crowns). After that, you tend to get tired of the content, no matter what shiny new things they’re offering. It’s because of this, that it’d take a miracle (ie a free five star, or a brand new way to play) to get me to come back.
  • people dont realize that the End game content for this game is bascially decimating the land scape, committing mass geocide and wild life extinction on a daily basis.

15:56 this is so true. These mini games are such a chore for a player like me and it feels like "I'm being forced" to do these events the same way a casual player feels they're forced to play abyss.

If Genshin puts out too much at a time, players complain of burnout, but if there isn't enough, players complain that the game is dead. The game is always updating so sometimes we all need to take a little breather before getting back into it. Fontaine has been FANTASTIC so far so I am more than willing to rest a little before things ramp up a bit again.

This type of drama only exists when you are paying attention to it or fabricating it in this case. People grow cold on games all the time and you could hardly claim to represent or have insight on the community while being a drama creator; I think people get too caught up on trying to stay "caught up" when the game is never leaving you behind. Every game will feel better when people stop viewing it as a chore/job, and instead play it when they feel like it, after they've gotten a real job and realize the genshin treadmill only exists if you let it. A level 80 keqing will still clear every domain even if you take a break for a year.

Biggest issue for me is lack of effort towards QoL. Artifact system sucks. Not having every set in the stronghold system, no guaranteed stat item for crafting like Honkai's self-modeling resin to ensure a basic build, can't break down the tons of shit artifacts into upgrade materials and having inventory fill up. If they literally just copied Honkai's relic systems it would be an immense upgrade. That and raising energy cap to 200, and making each half of Abyss restartable so you don't have to play through the first again if your 2nd party is having issues. Again, if they just copied Honkai, which is from their OWN company. Blows my mind.

13:30 True, Chenyu vale feels like a different region even though it's in Liyue. They didn't use the typical yellow theme but green instead. Even Sumeru deserts have different concepts. The devs are truly good in making map exploration here, and you will feel like you are in a different place, not just reused..

People forgot about Bennett's first b'day since the game release and i was sad

As someone who has been playing Genshin consistently since October 2020, with nearly 1000 days logged in, I'm definitely feeling the stagnation. I think that the main problem is that once you get to a certain point, where you have multiple abyss ready teams that are fully built, it feels like there's nothing left to do in the game when you've done everything there is to offer at that point. The main new content of the game, I.E. new regions, characters, story, and exploration, is still amazing, but there is definitely a sense of not knowing what to do in between those releases. Aside from maybe the TCG, there is no meaningful replayable and challenging content to keep us preoccupied in between major updates. The events feel like chores because players steamroll through them with their overpowered teams. Sometimes, even the exploration feels weird. Before, when I would find enemy camps, it would be exciting, since I would have to actually fight them and cycle through characters and reactions, but now, I can just use Navia by herself to nuke them for 100k damage without switching to any other characters. The lack of content which encourages the player to engage with the mechanics in a meaningful way makes the game just feel off sometimes, because you are never challenged.

I souly blame the director. It's a known fact that Honkai, Genshin and Star Rail are all run by different directors. Genshin's director is unfortunately, Cai Haoyu. A name familiar to early Honkai players. He's notorious for not listening to fans whatsoever, and is incredibly stingy with rewards. Honkai was in the exact same spot before Genshin's release since he was the head director. And now he's the head director of Genshin. Thats why games like Star Rail feel much more rewarding, because their director actually listens to feedback (aka rewards, nerfing bosses if too hard) And with Dehya, i absolutely hate how they ruined her kit. I still main her, but i have her signature, her c1 and perfect artifacts, yet she's still mediocre. The only reason I'm so hyped for 4.6 is Arlecchino whom I've loved since Winter Night Lazzos.

this is hands down the best critique video of GI I've watched ever - not only do u recognize where GI is lacking, but also pointing out veeery important topics like the exploration/region expansions and their frequencies! Great job on the video and you've definitely earner a new subscriber! ❤
  • I’m begging people to just take a break from the game. Yes you miss out on events if you do it, but it’s worth it. I do it every 6-8 months now, taking a break until the next nation.
