  • I think it was so important that Wayne had Walter as his father. He taught him so many things…not least of which was how to carry yourself as a person when you have the special abilities that Wayne had. The Great One always respected the game of hockey and its fans so much, he’s always so gracious in every interview, so well-spoken, so dignified. He knew that he’d be expected to be an ambassador for the game and he’s handled that with so much dignity and class all these years.

as a die hard Flames fan of the 80's Gretzky was public enemy number 1, but there is no denying he is genuinely a class act.

I am and have always been a HUGE Islanders fan! I hated and still dislike the Oilers, especially Wayne Gretzky! But, as an adult, I have listened to Wayne and see that he is a truly humble person with good values and I really respect him!

back then hockey night in Canada used to replay the games at midnight on Saturday nights , we would be partying at someones house with the game playing and with any luck Edmonton would be playing , some of the plays Gretzky and team would make would stop the party just to watch the replay .... lol it was a amazing
  • I was born in 1974. 40 minutes from his home. So ya i was like 8 when Oilers were on top. Wayne was my idol then. Now as an adult of 50, i still have nothing but love in my heart for the amount of people he manages to inspire. He is all ❤. Thx Wayne 99 Gretzky.😊

Maybe not the greatest talent of all time (Lemieux, Orr) but he's the best player. No one represents or honours the game like he does.

if you do what you love it never feels like work. Words of wisdom

We played street hockey with junior A players when we were 11 years old....they had fun with us.....I am not surprised Wayne did the same

Jordan said the same thing about the Detroit Pistons. If it wasn’t for them pushing the Bulls around and toughening them up they would not have won as many championships! Struggles breed resilience

I crossed paths with Walter Gretzky in the old London Gardens (Ontario) Walter was watching Keith Gretzky play ...Keith skates a lot like Wayne, I noticed ...Keith smooth skater ...Walter was about 10 rows to my left ...Walter easy to recognize 😅🏒

Wayne nailed it. It the fun that is missing from the game today. I remember being disappointed when he didn't end up in Winnipeg back then. It was also very unfortunate that they toar the Jets apart as a condition to letting them into the NHL. I believe they were Avco Cup Champions 3 years in a row at the time.
  • Thanks to the great one for winning the cup in Edmonton. Its been a pleasure having the great one on my team.
  • Wayne is the product of his father as he mentions him a lot in interviews. This is what unselfish parents do. They dedicate their time and effort into their children. And when they do you get greatest in return!

they should play this 10min clip every day in the Leafs dressing room...this is what a CHAMPION looks like , and what it takes to win.

It was around 1998 or 99 in Buffalo after game down by the locker room watched esa tikkanen walk up to walter Gretzky wearing blue jeans running shoes and a Brantford minor hockey jacket .. walter took all the kids and parents to meet the players! My greatest hockey moment and such a proud moment to be Canadian!
