The great pianist Richie Beirach is struggling with serious health issues that have rendered him unable to perform and have led to a severe financial crisis. His medical expenses have piled up, with over €16,000 in outstanding bills and additional costs exceeding €100,000. Despite efforts to secure assistance, the situation remains dire, and Richie is unable to manage these overwhelming financial burdens on his own.

A Gofundme campaign has been created for Richie's fans and friends to contribute whatever they can to help. You can visit the Gofundme page at: www.gofundme.com/f/coming-together-for-the-great-j…

I created this video to raise awareness of Richie's condition and to share the tremendous gifts he has given me these past 5 years in terms of our partnership in creating videos, short-form instructional documents, and the many books we have put together.

This is a story of how the tragedy of the COVID pandemic turned into a friendship and collaboration that bore priceless fruit for the world-wide jazz community.

  • Mike -- I am glad you made me aware of this campaign to benefit Richie. I couldn't donate much, but I donated something, and I hope it helps.

Thanks so much for this! I took some lessons with Richie when I first moved to New York in ‘83. I can still hear his voice, think of his insights, and practice what he shared with me. Not sure I ever properly thanked him for all he did for me. Thank Richie. Good times and health to you!

I had the pleasure of taking lessons with Richie around 1975-76 whenever he was off the road. I love the guy. He is a Titan at the piano, and an extremely thoughtful person. He helped me take my playing seriously. While I'm no Richie Beirach (nor should I be), I am a better pianist and piano teacher for knowing him.

Great video. Richie has been a favorite of mine since Elm and the first Quest albums. I will contribute. That was George Mraz on Elm, not Dave Holland.

Why does the Go Fund Me page for Richie say "Your donation will benefit Heather O'Donnell"?
