  • “ Are you flirting, or are you just sexy by nature?” That one line just summed up this whole show.

The case study of vanitas feels like the opposite of queer-baiting, like Jeanne and Vanitas go on a date and you think that maybe there will be some form of a heterosexual relationship in this show and then not even 5 minutes later Noe is lamenting about how badly he wants to drink Vanitas’s yummy blood while blushing like a school girl

Fun fact: in manga the reason Dominique thinks she can't give the valuable advice on how to make Vanitas hate Jeanne is because she only ever romanced women because all the men get scared off by her big sister! (Chapter 20, for the curious! Also chapter 6, for reasons.)

The fact that consent is such a big vibe in the storyline, and that we know vampire biting as a reference to penetration ya know ya know you get it. Anyways. Ruthven biting noe without his consent, revealing that he was supposed to kill him but chose not to, and also putting that curse on him? The subtext of assault and control and the lack of it is so interesting. Also domi and jeanne and noe and vanitas are all gay for eachother
  • "Noe, who hurt you?" Louis, his master (The blonde vampire), Vanitas, sometimes Domi, the list goes on.

"Origin of “lose your marbles” “Lose your marbles” is thought to have originated in the United States in the late 1800s. Marbles were a popular toy for children at the time, and they were often used as a symbol of value or worth. To lose one's marbles was therefore to lose something of great importance." Everyone in this entire show is aggressively bisexual, and I love it. Granted, I suppose that’s inevitable when one of your main characters is voiced by Zeno Robinson
  • The anime cuts most of the direct references to Vanitas sleeping on the rooftop of the hotel. And it cut out a bit of dialogue in the beginning when Amelia delivers the note to Vanitas, she makes a comment on how she is surprised to find him in his room, and Vanitas says that he's now sleeping in there like he's supposed to, to which Ameila wonders where he was sleeping before. But the implication being that after the catacombs incident, Vanitas has felt more comfortable to be vulnerable around Noé to sleep in the same room as him (plus the fact that Vanitas chooses to rest on Noé right after they've delt with Moreau). Which makes Vanitas' departure at the end (after Noé asks to drink his blood) to sleep on the roof all the more significant because it shows a break in the newfound trust between him and Noé (though unintentionally). Also in the manga during that same scene in the beginning, when Noé falls off the bed, Amelia tries to go and help him but Vanitas stops her by saying that Noé will just latch on and turn her into a hug pillow (spoken like from experience). The Dhams have way more to do it the manga and it's sad to not see them show up as much in the anime.

Fun fact the whole myth about vampires not seeing the reflection in mirrors actually kind of stems from back in the day mirrors have silver to give their reflective quality so a vampire not seeing themselves in the mirror is due to the silver I don't remember where I learned this I just remembered that I do

It's a vampire show where the vampires are fairly human-like. In that context, blood drinking is nearly always a sex metaphor. Therefore, it is usually best to assume that all such vampires are bisexual unless proven otherwise. It certainly makes the most sense for the character dynamics in this show!
  • Danny, in case you forgot, the trajectory of this show is Vanitas death, Noe starts almost all the episodes with "and this is how and why I killed my boyfriend"
  • @user-lt8lm1vv9v
07:05 Little does Danny know - the anime cut a ton of scenes with Dante and other dhams, and now current manga arc is about them! There's some really heavy themes how hard it is to be of mixed races and being looked down on by both sides, and I have no idea how anime could possibly salvage it!
  • @IDSmileEna
CASE STUDY OF VANITAS SEASON 2 REACTION WHEN??????
