  • Grew up diving but started having nightmares about underwater structures, machinery, and gears when I was a teenager. Don't know why, but what you guys do is quite literally one of by biggest deep seeded fears. Hats off to you.

I thought I had an irrational fear of all things pipey , watery and tanky, then I find I am not alone..I find this fascinating but like others I would literally feel sick having to stare down that pipe in person. I would also like to now exactly what is this 'intake', where does it go? why is it half full of dead things? why does the cover look like 2 wooden palettes stacked on eachother, why is a fish allowed to be sucked in if its working etc...

Oh hell no! Poking around the trash rack I'd be uncomfortable with.... going inside the pipe?? [Screaming internally]
  • At my job we have 4 350hp pumps that pull water through pipes for a water ride at a theme park. Once a month we have to dive in the intakes for inspection. It looks very similar to this but with more concrete.

I thought I was weird for being scared of rooms and places with pipes and stuff like boiler rooms and pump rooms etc. That is creepy to me especially if there are large open pipes exposed. I too thought I was the only one who had a phobia about stuff like this

Seems like everyone here is confronting their fears.
  • They call that a safety cage around that intake? THE DAMN THING IS MADE OF FUCKING WOOD!

Then in the distance you hear a turbine spin up, the in-flow starts, all of a sudden you get sucked through those palettes as your scuba gear gets ripped off you, and with your last breath hold as you shoot down the pipe feet-first with the whine of the turbine impeller getting louder and louder...

My question is what do the intake/intank do?
