So pleased for Antoine Dupont individually, and France as a whole, that they got the gold in the end. He’s been the best player in the world for a few seasons now in the XV-man code, and the French have been there or thereabouts for much longer than that without ever being able to win the whole tournament, so this is a kind of fitting and deserved result for them. Keep this up and we could just about see Dupont finally displacing Gareth Edwards as the greatest player the game has ever seen.

Incredible, I didn't think France would beat Fiji, so I know a lot of people don't like Dupont (the AFS especially) but what a crazy player!! although I prefer to watch him at 15, the way he's adapted and risen to the challenge of the 7-a-side players is incredible! Respect

Dupont is only 27, whats he accomplished is absurb. The greatest rugby player debate is always a bit silly. Dupont is a special talent and is magic to watch. The man desrved to perform in front of his home country again and boy did he deliver when it mattered.

Torn about this. Rugby 7s represents Fiji’s Olympics but France and DuPont winning is great for rugby. I guess Fiji winning 2 golds and a silver over the last 3 Olympics isn’t bad going! Happy for any result that’s good for the game.

Well donne France. Dupont 2 tries, one assist!!! This team clicked perfectly today. Anyway, I thought Fiji would come on top. I love the 7s, i try to follow it each time so i thought that Fiji and Argentina would be the final. Congrats South Africa for the bronze medal !

Tim, I have loved 7s for a while but it has become more and more difficult to watch it in the Uk. Not helped when the last competition bypassed the Twickenham leg! Fantastic game, huge congratulations to France - anybody getting one over Fiji in 7’s has done a great job! Blitsbok supporter to the end!

The tournament as a whole was memorable for all the right reasons. Close and dramatic matches and the fairytale ending, which doesn’t happen often in sport.
