In today’s woodworking build we’re making a White Oak and Wenge Jewelry Box. Boxes are a right of passage for woodworkers. Due to the low cost of materials, they’re phenomenal projects to practice some high level skills while the stakes are low. They make fantastic gifts and the creative possibilities are endless. I walk you through grain wrapping to make it look like one continuous board, fitting/making trays, adding felt, and getting a high quality smooth finish with grain filler, shellac, lacquer and wax. The lid design is inspired by Matt Kenney @mekwoodworks who is the reason I got into woodworking years ago. Let me know what you’d like to see next. Thanks for watching! Please like, comment and subscribe. Cheers!

Great book for a beginner . youtube.com/post/UgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9… this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.

Always a good day when Katz-Moses releases a video

I am very thankful for the youtube.com/post/UgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6… that has been a tremendous help to me in building a perfect outdoor shed. I have been facing many challenges and difficulties for a long time, but this plan has guided me to correct the mistakes during the process. I am impressed by the projects and I express my gratitude to the creator of this collection of plans.
  • Thanks for throwing in that part about pricing, I've been making boxes for a little while now and I keep getting told that if I want to sell them they need to be under $100, but they also still need to be made from walnut with nice brass hardware...
  • @michaelwelch442
I absolutely love the woodworking community. I am so incredibly grateful to be consistently exposed to such positive people and quality craftsmanship.

18:15 had me rolling. 😂 Beautiful work, as always. I'm certain your friend will be thrilled to receive such a wonderful gift
  • @GetHandsDirty
I'm so happy to see my sticker in the background :)) Wow, that box came out amazing and very good looking! I love how you come up with great solutions and always give great tips during the process.

Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan! You never cease to amaze me… dude, your workmanship is over-the-top incredible! That box is absolutely gorgeous! I’m just starting to make six memory boxes for my children and my two best friends. They include a voice box and mini urn, (I have a terminal illness), so they can keep photos, letters, a share of my ashes, and I am recording messages for each one of them so they can hear my voice whenever they want to. I always try to do my best work, but you just inspired me to take it up to a whole new level. I’ve followed you for quite some time now, and always appreciate your teachings. The only thing I’m not sure about is how to wrap the thread so it never unravels, but Google is my friend, and I shall look it up, (I just love the handles). Thank you as always! - signed Tim, (a fellow woodworker, and friend you’ve never met). ☮️❤️

Intended as a compliment: I love the mix of woodworking knowledge and montage that makes it feel kind of like a training montage from one of the Rocky movies. You just need to add a voice-over of Devito grumbling perplexing one-liners many to inspire you to cut cleaner in the style of a fight trainer.
  • The beauty of building boxes is that u work thru the entire process from wood selection to finish on a relative shorter period of time (compared to a dresser) and perfecting each of those steps.
  • It’s a good video when you receive a verbal gentleman, a non verbal look in place of gentleman and a blurred out section.

boxmaking is my favorite too. This content-free comment is here to drive up engagement numbers for my favorite channels. Thanks!
  • @markhage8790
I recently started a crafts furniture making course. My very first project was a jewelry box inspired by this video. I made it out of elm and walnut. Except for the milling of the wood, it is completely made with handtools. Not a single electrically powered appliance was used. I am inordinately proud of the result, even if it does still contain some mistakes and you can definitely see it was made by a novice. I want to thank you for this video and design, that inspired me for my very first project. I'd love to share a picture with you, but that isn't possible here :)
  • @bhartissimo
When I saw your Instagram post about this box, I couldn't wait to watch the video. Now that I have, I'm inspired to try (key word) and make something that (hopefully) resembles it. This has got to be one of the coolest boxes around.
  • @marthint
The way they slide right in there WOOOOOW! Love it!
  • @DARTHPLATITUDE
Love the way it just lightly fell into the other box.... complete wow moment for me
  • @BiggMo
7:57 Jonathan, instead of using woodworking spring clamps, use binder clamps from the office store - far smaller and more manageable size
  • Great looking box, J! I’m setting up to make some jewelry boxes for my daughters for Christmas, and I got some good ideas from this video. The continuous-grain wrap by using book-matched wood looks really, really cool... I was planning on dovetail joinery, but these splined meters look so good I am going to try it for at least one box. BTW, the “trick” of closing a miter gap with your burnishing tool is awesome! Thanks for the great content, again.
  • WOW!!! That came out gorgeous Jonathan. Thanks for sharing this build and I also appreciate the way how to fix something that just wasn't right. Those are the tips that really help someone like myself learning how to master the skill. Thanks again! Felix
