I miss my childhood. Those were the days when life was still easy, simple and happy 😢😢😢

I grew up in the 70's with their songs around me. every time I hear them i am transported into the warm summer past. It fills me with both happiness and sadness. All those wonderful memories. Thank you 'Bread'.

One of the most heart-breaking, yet beautiful songs ever written.
  • @starblazer5178
I played this on my guitar for my millennial neighbors. They said omg did you write that? I said no it's bread. So now I hear bread playing through the neighborhood. It's the small things really
  • I first bought the vinyl album of "The Best of Bread" when I was 21. I'm now 66 and still love it - so many memories!

Back in the 70's I was too cool to like music like this, but now as a grown man I am crying my eyes out over how beautiful and moving it is. What fantastic talent Bread was.

My mother of 97 years old lived through the great depression and unimaginable hardships, she told me once one thing she cannot bear to see is a grown man cry, it just tears her apart. She grew up around lumberjacks and some farmers. She said men of that era were so strong that if they finally did break they had done everything possible and some impossible to make it. We live on the backs of giants.
  • Every time I hear this song when he sings "I found her diary under the tree" I scream, "NO DAVID! DON'T DO IT! DON'T READ IT!" But he never listens to me. He opens it and starts reading.

I'm 13 and almost all millennials are obsessed with modern day musics. My brother was the one who said I should listen to this and carefully read the lyrics. It's heartbreaking in the most calming way. Old songs are so poetic and meaningful. I just simply love it. Gotta listen more from Bread :))

Any guy with a soul can relate to this and feel the pain it evokes. That's the mark of a well-written song. David Gates never got much credit for his songwriting abilities; it was his voice matched to the mood of his compositions that elicited all the airplay and the girlie fans.

After all these years this song still makes me cry.
  • @Blondejam
The sweetest song I ever heard in my life and one that I have loved for over forty years! Total classic. Thank you David Gates and the guys for a song that will be with me for the rest of my life.

It takes a rare love to let his woman go after learning she is not in love with him. It takes even a stronger love to give her blessings as she leaves him for the one she truly loves. BREAD is so deep with their lyrics, which is what always make them a classic group. U should check out "It don't Matter to me"....another deep thought by them.
  • Damn, I am 26 years old, wasn't around during Bread's heyday but damn I wish I was. Grew up listening to Bread, my Father and Grandmother love these guys and godammit so do I. Why can't music today be as poetic and as thoughtful as this. Such an amazing track from an even more amazing band.
  • @Canaday291
Goosebumps listening to these lyrics and gorgeous voice.
  • @ETandAssociates
Clever, thoughtful lyrics like these are rare these days. This is a generous acknowledgement of some people's ever changing emotions, (even our partner's) which we can't control. Bread's best.
