I went to a Delta IV Heavy Launch!

Took a break from Dissertation-y things today to visit Vandenberg and watch a Delta IV Heavy take off! The Delta IV Heavy is an enormously powerful rocket and it's pretty awesome to watch one in person. I took my new tripod rig and got some great footage despite the awful ground-level wind.

Awesome! Always wanted to get out to see a launch, and those Delta Heavy's are something else. I didn't realize you could see stage separation, very cool!

That's a big rocket. In high school many, m-a-n-y years ago, our Jr. ROTC class took a field trip to Vand enburg AFB on the central coast of California. While we were there, we watched a Minuteman II lift-off. Definitely LOUD with super, duper sub-bass. It shook my tummy good!

I’ve been around Top Fuel engines many times. A rocket launch has to be even more jarring than that. Seeing one is on my bucket list.

I worked this launch as an engineer on the gsw avionics team 🙂. It was amazing how we were able to get it off first try, shocked everyone.

I went to see delta 4 heavy launch in Florida in Dec 2020 i think it was, feeling rumbling and seeing it light up night sky. Amazing!! 👏👏
