In this documentary, we take you inside South Africa’s whites-only town, Orania.

Orania is home to around 3,000 residents and if you want to live there, you have to meet certain requirements. The first and most important is that you have to be a White Afrikaner. Afrikaners are descendants of Dutch settlers who played a key role in establishing and enforcing apartheid. Additionally, residents must be Calvinist Christians, have a clean criminal record, and exclusively speak Afrikaans within the enclave.

Despite its size, Orania is a self-sufficient community with its own local government, currency, flag, college, farms, bank, airstrip, and their own rules. The community's growth and ambitions are notable, yet it remains deeply controversial. Critics label Orania as racist, while supporters argue it is a place for cultural preservation and self-determination. This ongoing debate highlights the complexities of Orania's existence in modern-day South Africa.

I want to find out the truth about Orania and see it for myself. What drives people to live in such a secluded and controversial place? How do they balance their ideals with modern South Africa? By making the 9-hour journey from Cape Town, I hope to answer these questions, meet the locals, and share the real story of this unique community.

Thanks to Orania's team for providing some extra footage.

No killing, no rape, no steeling, a flower in a sewage dump

As a Zulu boy I totally understand. In Kzn there are Zulu chiefs who control massive pieces of land and build communities based on their cultural heritage and no one ever complains. Orania should be left alone to strive on their terms which aren't affecting any outsider. ✌️💪
  • As a black person, all I see here is a group of white people protecting themselves from the brutality of South African Criminals. It's very inspiring.
  • As a black man, I'm so disappointed at our black leaders. Look at how beautiful and peaceful orania is. They failed us.

This shows that South Africa can be prosperous. It is about working hard, teamwork, no corruption, no politics interfering with production.
  • I am an indian and whenever i see white majority towns they are very clean, well planned, peaceful, calm and economy is always good like how they do it

Kids and women can walk around safely without being murdered, this place should be a model for the whole country.

The most important thing about Orania is they have a unified culture and they do not outsource any labor.

Don't complain, build your tribe-only village with your own values
  • 0:01 “frozen in time”, yet the infrastructure, institutions, and overall feel of the town is more advanced, sustainable, and progressive than literally the entire country that it has the burden of being within. Lmao

Looks like a roughly 0% obesity rate as well. Go figure.
  • I'm a non white South African and I applaud the Afrikaans community for standing together and building a life for themselves without asking government for anything
  • Orania is how every community in the world should be. I wish them all the best.

I bet Orania is the only town in South Africa that is safe and no crimes, robbery, or homicide being committed.
  • I am black, and what is happening in Orania is truly inspiring. I think each and every community in South Africa should strive to be like Orania.

As a black South African I’m fully behind the idea of cultural preservation & maintaining community values as long as those values aren’t rooted in hatred & racism.
  • As a Belgian who lives in Brussels his whole life this town looks like a paradise right now. Where I live the language spoken is Arabic. I can't leave my daughters leave the house after 9 pm or they get shouted at or harassed. I'm looking to move soon but selling my house is a nightmare since no "real" Belgians want to live here. Orania looks like heaven
  • I am an Irish woman, obviously white. Ireland is being destroyed by multiculturalism and uncontrolled mass immigration. I would love to live in a place like this, but I probably wouldn’t be accepted as I am neither an Afrikaaner nor a Calvinist. I suppose I could convert. Best wishes to all Oranians.
