"maybe authors are less messy than other types of people who dont handle sh*t privately" someone faked their death for 2 years to sell a book. its a very messy community
  • @thornwalker8970
The sheer amount of time and energy Cait put into review bombing her fellow authors could have been used to produce an other book.... And the the speed she was going, she could have written a whole series 😂
  • @fizzydante
This reminds me of when I entered an art competition and made a bunch of fake accounts to vote for myself and was humiliated/ashamed when I was called out. However I was 13 when that happened!!!!! it amazes me that an adult did this!

I'm a self-published author. I have mental health issues. This woman achieved my DREAM only to throw it away over petty BS. I do not feel sorry for her. She dug her own grave, intentionally. Authors need to support each other, especially when we're first starting out. We need support more than ever then.
  • This kind of behaviour by authors has been a problem on Goodreads for over a decade. Any petty author who felt threatened by someone more talented (and usually LGBTQA+ and/or BIPOC) would send their sock puppets and fans to attack and chase their target off social media. Goodreads has done nothing to police this disgusting behavior despite the outcry.
  • @AnnaItem
The main thing that bothers me about her “apology” is that she doesn’t even acknowledge or mention that her reviews targeted BIPOC authors.
  • @TAddy-wq3hg
I found out about this because I follow the person who first dropped the reveal. "Everybody looking into it" was mostly Xiran Jay Zhao (whose book "Iron Widow" is incredible btw). She tracked down all Corrain's sock puppet accounts, contacted the authors for their opinions on how to handle the info, and dropped it online with their consent. Y'all should collab someday and break the internet with your god-tier research skills.

What gets me is that she didn't just go after people of color. She purposefully went after people she knew and were "friends" with. That is some high school type BS. She screams insecure with that action.
  • @manic_girl
As someone who suffers from mental health issues including bipolar 1 disorder (hello to my username): mental health issues don’t make you racist. I had severe breaks with reality during manic episodes. Wasn’t racist. And I’m tired of people using it as an excuse for their own disgusting beliefs.
  • @ApequH
The books mentioned, for those who migth like to read them: Voyage of the Damned, Frances White Let them Burn, Kamilah Cole To Gaze upon the Wicked, Molly x Chang Mistress of Lies, K. M. Enright The Hurricane Wars, Thea Guanzon R. M. Virtues (mutiple books) The Poison we Drink, Bethany Baptiste Was writing them down anyway so I can check them out
  • @espada0687
Whenever I had a mental breakdown or health struggle I NEVER bothered or harassed other people as a result. If anything I withdrew from everything and anyone which is why I say BS to people who use their health as an excuse for being shitty.
  • @CelestialKameo
Was not prepared for a part of an internet controversy to be solved by the freaking Reylo shipping community but the internet is a weird place
  • @princesskristan
I saw this unfold all over Twitter through one of the authors who covered it, and it was insane. Mental health isn't an excuse to be racist, and she was so gross for her actions
  • @spectre9340
I do hope people actually go ahead and check out the BIPOC authors that were involved in this. Too many people that were scandalized by this are left feeling like "Oh I should avoid supoorting this author!" and not enough people are left feeling like "I should go check out those other debut authors"
  • @beIIabeIIa
In the discord messages, "Lilly" points out that most of the reviews were against poc authors and that Cait would be ruined due to that. Cmon, Cait. You knew what you were doing.
  • The fact that she was given everything every debut author dreams of, was on the verge of great success with the help of all those companies supporting her and her work…only to throw it all away to stomp out her fellow authors who were at more of a disadvantage just so she could ensure that only she got all the fame and success. What a horrible, conniving, pathetic thing to do - especially within a community that endlessly supports each other and each other’s work. She got exactly what she deserved and I hope the affected authors can come back from this mess.
  • @mollys8379
My alcoholism made me a person I hated, and I definitely did a lot of things that I regret, but it didn't make me racist. While I hold empathy for Cait as someone who has struggled with alcoholism and mental health, her actions point more towards someone with a mean and self-serving personality. I hope the other authors have amazing releases and I wish them all so much peace and success!
  • @moonyollie6977
I researched this shit throughly and I'm still flabbergasted. I really do not understand WHY. How the F did this woman feel SO threatened when she had a multiple book deal, MULTIPLE powerhouse well-established artists working with her, and it was already well regarded in the industry to the point that it had basically been bought to workshow an adaptation. That said, the racism was just so so gross for someone presenting themselves as an ally, and her apology was bullsh*t. Not the worst I had ever read/seen, but wow. Way to NOT take ANY accountability whatsoever. The other authors gave her so much undeserved grace before Xiran snapped Edit: "The definitive beige bible," LMAO
