A heartbroken dad is speaking out after his daughter died while they hiked Yosemite’s Half Dome. Grace Rohloff was hiking with her dad. Johnathan Rohloff tells Inside Edition his daughter had checked the forecast. When they made it to the top, a storm appeared out of nowhere. It began to pour during their descent. Unfortunately, she slipped off the side. As Jonathan Rohloff mourns his daughter's death, he says he will now work to make Half Dome a safer adventure.

When I heard she was with her dad my jaw dropped, losing a kid must hurt but in front of you. Damn that’s messed up

Climbing that high grabbing two cables with no protection is insane enough

There’s a very big difference between hiking and climbing a big rock/mountain.

These national parks warn you take it at your own risk.

Attempted to finish the Half Dome climb. But when I got to the cables/steps and looked up at nothing but a line of people, something said “ don’t do this”. Going up was going to be a slow challenge and coming down/having to move out of the way of the up climbers was unsettling. When you add a potential storm/lightning possibly arriving- disaster is a real possibility. I turned around and headed back and to this day, I don’t regret it because there was this “ bad vibe” about those cables..

I feel for the dad, I pray that he is surround by love and support during this time. May his daughter rest peacefully
  • This absolutely hurts my soul. I have a daughter. I literally can’t. I’m praying you find peace brother 🙏🏾

The real question is why dont you have a clip on safety harness to prevent this???
  • Geez, I'm surprised this is even legal without any real safety equipment. Rest in peace, poor girl. And her poor dad and rest of her family... ugh!

Id rather just chill out in Dave and Busters than climb up a 2000 feet rock and risk my life

Rip Grace ❤️ Prayers for dad, he has been traumatized more than he even understands right now. So sad. 😢

I've done this hike several times. Never rush coming down; that was their mistake. They could've waited for the storm to pass. There is a sign at the top that explicitly states what to do when a storm is coming, especially a thunderstorm. To get back to the valley, it's about a 5-6 hour trek down. You're essentially stuck at the top until then. Patience could've been the lynchpin to that young girl's survival.

I can’t imagine losing your baby and you watching it happen helpless to do anything. This is just heartbreaking!

My god… I can’t imagine the amount of absolute panic, despair and helplessness he must’ve felt as he could do nothing but watch her fall

Best check to see if there is any life insurance recently taken out on this girl by the father.

When my son was in 7th grade, his school group went to Yosemite camping trip. Back then I never heard of hiking up Half Dome. But his school had his group hike it up. The school never notified the parents to bring gloves and decent shoes. I was shocked to learn how challenging it is to climb the Half Dome.

I’ll never understand why people needlessly risk their lives by doing stuff like this.
  • How is this man able to form sentences. If that were my daughter id be mute unable to speak for months on end and whenever she’s mentioned i would be in tears and hysterics
