Whatever role Rigg has appeared in over the years, whether on stage, TV, or film, she’s always gravitated toward strong women characters. In fact, the career of Diana Rigg has taken quite a few twists and turns over the decades. This world-famous British actress was a member of the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company way back in 1959 and graced the Broadway stage in 1970. In the 1960s and 70s, she was one of the most remembered Bond girls–in fact, she was the only Bond girl ever to marry the notoriously hard-to-pin-down 007.

Kids of the 80s will remember Rigg as the snobby but well-groomed Lady Holiday, who gave Miss Piggy her break into the world of fashion in the 1981 film The Great Muppet Caper. Right up until the 1990s, she continued on TV in Dickens and Shakespearean reproductions by the BBC, Emmy-winning miniseries. She was in her late 70s and 80s when she appeared in Game of Thrones and the British rural veterinary drama All Creatures Great and Small. Despite her seemingly vibrant wellbeing and endless zest for life, Diana Rigg wasn’t without her health problems. She was a pack-a-day smoker for pretty much her entire life–a habit that may have contributed to her recent passing from lung cancer. She was 82 years old.

I loved her as a young teen as Emma Peel. I even sewed my own Emma Peeler jumpsuit to wear and had an Avengers scrapbook. I was always aware of what a great actress she was through the years in film, theater and on TV.

Ever since I saw her the first time on the Avengers she has been my favorite actress. No one has come along to replace her. And I am sure they never will.

Diana Riggs was the best as Emma Peele on The Avengers! She was my favorite in that role! So beautiful and charismatic! Haven't seen her in some of the other roles you mentioned but will look for some of them. Thank you for the insight!

Although it was my sister that was a big fan of The Avengers, I liked Diana! I later saw her narrating and hosting a program in the 80s and admired how quietly elegant she was!

So strange we lost Diana Rigg, Honor Blackman, and Bond himself, Sean Connery all in the same year. Such great talent taken from us. RIP.
