Published 2024-07-14
I am making a new product to help people sleep on their side. I am trying to make a perfect design for my factory partners to manufacture for mass production. This is an update video on this process.

Thank you Vik for all your efforts to help us all. It is appreciated. šŸ™

I attended a Gokhale Method workshop (posture training) and one of the things they taught was to sleep with a whole bunch of pillows that you could tuck around yourself in different ways to support various parts of the body. I'm excited to think you're creating a product that will provide that kind of custom sleep support. Thank you for working so hard to bring us the real rest we have been lacking.
  • I've been a side sleeper my whole life, and actually thought it was strange that people could ever sleep on their back. Not only do I snore that way, and can hardly breathe (my jaw drops open and back and my tongue falls back), I also end up having my arms and hands go numb if I lie flat on my back. So I'm definitely keeping an eye on this whole thing.

I cannot wait to get one. Ive learned so much from this man about sleep apnea and sleeping positions etc etc. He knows all the little details that really aren't so little. They help. They work alot of the time.

Love the perfectionist attitude towards this product and the fact that you're truly trying to find a solution for people, not just make money. My largest issue with side sleeping devices like the WoodyKnows is that I still somehow find a way to unconsciously turn to my back with the device rotating to allow me to do it. Hoping for the best for your pillow solution!
  • Love hearing this. You are a wonderful physician and it's obvious you care about people.

Hi Vik looking forward to the arrival of the pillow system. Since my sleep study you informed me that my sleep apnea is less when sleeping on my side which I have been doing since, using a large pillow on my side. So looking forward your pillow.
  • Hello Vic. This system, if made up of separate sections for different body areas, sounds like it will suit people of different body types and sizes/lengths. This is a terrific idea.

Thank you. Yes while the backpack solution is good. It uncomfortable after a few hours. A consideration I didnā€™t hear you mention was usability, it shouldnā€™t be hassle to put on or to use. Thanks for all you do!
  • Thank you, Vik. I saw you recently in your private practice. This pillow sounds like a great idea. Iā€™ve been advised to sleep on my side, but itā€™s a bit uncomfortable at the moment.

You're a legend for this, will defs help alot of people. Also would be curious to know your thoughts on this, CPAP helped me abit, then CPAP + MAD together helped me more but then sleeping with all three has significantly improved how I feel, the third being the back cushion to prevent sleeping on my back. But I agree I toss and turn and get sore arms with my amazon inflatable backpack.

Besides OSA, I have upper and lower spinal issues where side sleeping is a must. This sounds like a dream come true, I'm really looking forward to your "side sleeping system". Thanks for all you do and enjoy the rest of your week.
  • We are asleep 7 to 10 hours per 24 hour period. Sleep time is supposed to be restorative. Your system might also increase health restoration.
  • This pillow design sounds really exciting! I sleep on my left side using a memory foam pillow raised in height slightly by a folded towel. I have a pillow between the legs for hip comfort and a pillow under my right upper arm to alleviate discomfort of shoulder pain. It all helps but it's not perfect. I'm always on the lookout for a better system.
  • I've always been a side sleeper, but always waking up with a sore shoulder and arm (plus a compromised C7 nerve doesn't help). I would give anything to minimise that..plus my partner snores badly on his back, and I am forever rolling him over. So I'm pretty sure if all turns out like you say, there will be 2 happy customers. Here's hoping that you can ship to Australia šŸ˜šŸ¤ž

Thank you Dr Vik for all your efforts to make our life better. Yes we are facing serious problem and hope your pillow system would fix it. You are passionate about your works and seems to be perfectionist hence I'm waiting for an innovative solution and over the time the product can be better and better. Thank you again and waiting for it to order it.
  • Your excitement is so nice to see. I don't suffer from obstructive sleep issues, though I really do like the sound of your pillow system! Thank you for your perfectionism :) (P.s I think you would enjoy Iyengar yoga because the practice incorporates lots of props like cushion bolsters, cotton belts, foam blocks, chairs, sticks and more šŸ˜ƒ
  • Proper 'aha!' moment there around 3:00 -- it had never occurred to me that my side-sleeping (the only comfortable way for me) might contribute to my general "forward posture" (slumping) and kyphosis. This pillow system sounds amazing so far, can't wait to learn more!
