India has recently become the most populous country in the world. This means that one thing that we have enough of is population. But despite this, the state government of Sikkim is providing incentives to the people in its state- to encourage them to have more babies. Why is that? This is because the Total fertility rate of Sikkim has fallen to 1.1 which means that on average, a woman in Sikkim is giving birth to only one baby in her reproductive lifespan. This has got the government really worried because a TFR of at least 2.1 is necessary to replace the population at its existing level. A TFR of 1.1 would mean that if things continue the way they are right now, the population of Sikkimese people will be in danger. How dangerous this exactly is and what is the government doing to address that? This is what we will be talking about in this video

I lived in Gangtok during my teen years. Never have I felt that safe in my life. You can walk any time of the day without any eve teasing or crazy people. We absolutely need more of these people.

This reasearch completely shows that how sikkimese women are strong and educated..they know it clearly that giving birth to a child and raising him is how challenging...it also shows how independent women are and they can decide for themselves... I think whole india should learn from them and people should stop creating a football team...there is no problem in having a single child...one should be able to give them a good life..
  • I am from Uttar Pradesh and I am of the opinion that the population control is primarily required in Hindi belt(including West Bengal).Other states have more or less have sufficient population.
  • when I went to Gangtok last month I saw many female police officers. Gangtok was very clean and highly developed. I was feeling the vibe of south korea/japan. Love from North Bengal.
  • Kudos to Sikkim people..they choose development rather breeding .. Woman's respected and independent
  • I lived in gangtok earlier in my childhood for 3 years and we used to come home from school alone and it was so safe my mother was never worried. The people are wonderful and so is the place 😭❤️

It is not female participation in workforce, it is the absence of male participation in child rearing.

I'm from Sikkim too, and I believe that Adoption can be s good option rather than populating.....
  • 16:07 I am from Sikkim working as an IEC and a mental health counselor under Sikkim Health dept. We are told to encourage communities to have more kids. But I think this is here where the problem lies. The paid maternity leave for a year sounds really good but since the paternity leave is only for a month most men are out of their house to carry on with their lives just after a month leaving the child solely for mothers to take care. Mind you, most men are posted in a different districts and because of the terrain and climate they cannot work from home and have to live separately close to their jobs. Now this leaves women solely alone with the child with no breaks or turns. These are women also taking care of husbands family, with a child, alone. I cannot imagine how mentally frustrating that must be. By saying that it isn't like the husband doesn't help, most men here help their wives with house chores and taking care of the child. But because it's a systemic flaw they won't be of much help.
  • Myself being a Sikkimese I just understood the real reason behind this scheme introduced by our CM. Such a detailed video. Really appreciative. 👏

The gap between Mohak and rest of youtubers like dhruv and others, over the genuine quality content on social aspects of India is increasing week by week. Kudos to you brother! Glad there's someone like you in this domain.

I've observed that in terms of women rights and empowerment, hilly states (j&k, HP, UK, Sikkim, NE India) are much more developed that their counterpart plains states
