The Nicest 75 Year Old Generator I Have Seen! 1945 Onan W2C

Published 2021-01-03
Quick road trip video to pick up this Onan W2C which was built in September 1945. It is in very nice condition cosmetically. Look for videos of this gen in the future!

That set is more original than I am (fewer replacement parts) and it's only 4 years younger than I am. What a fortunate find, and got into the right hands to take care of it. Thanks for the video!

I have been watching your videos for a few weeks. They show me my shortcomings. I just rebuilt the injectors and put injector cups in my 7.3 and didn’t check the glow plugs had to take it apart again in December once the weather the weather got cold and it wouldn’t start. I hopefully will learn my lesson. Thanks for sharing

Nice machine. Back in the mid 80's I bought a similar one, only with a full housing at a farm auction for only $10. It turned over fine. Only problem was that I couldn't take everything home at once. I took the small stuff and was coming back with took to take it apart so I could carry it. By the time I got back an hour later, the junk man they hired to take the remains away, had taken it. He didn't see my number written on top. Should have told the auctioneer that I would have to make two trips but didn't think it would be hauled away.

That machine is cool! In the early 1950's my Dad bought one just like this military surplus. We had a "summer home" (a cabin/shack with an outhouse) on a small island in a lake in southern Michigan. He and a buddy slide or drug it over the ice one winter and we used it one summer. He never could get the engine governor to settle down and the thing "hunted" all over the place. Before he had a chance, the next summer or so, someone stole the unit.
  • Nice that you went out and got that classic gen set thanks for your help with saving the classic gen set,s of the past

LOL! Nice driveway.. no sneaking into that place!!🤣 That little Onan is pretty much pristine for a 75 year old generator. Most likely with a little fuel system re-vamping and an oil change, it will be good as new! Would love to see it running.😉👍

Mike, Nice Genset for sure. You should have asked for a tour of that Ol Home it is rich with history. And folks in that area are delighted to let you see their homes. I believe this one is now on the National Register of Historic Homes.

Nice addition to your collection! Love the art deco accent on radiator shell.
  • Hey Nice find. Yes them clothed battery cables and new battery clamps looks like they tried to get it running. Look forward to updates .
