There's plenty of "motivational" or "inspirational" anime characters out there. There's a few I would genuinely credit with changing my life. However many of those, had huge amounts of screentime - or at the very least a good few episodes. But Shinsuke Kita, has barely more than an episode.

Of all of Haikyuu's quotes, perhaps my favourite is "You do it every day. You take care of your body. You tidy your environment. You practice gratitude. And you practice". Shinsuke's arrival is one of the most pivotal moments for Haikyuu, that took everything that the events of the previous matches, in particular Karasuno vs Aoba Johsai, and turned it into something even more beautiful.

Karasuno vs Inarizaki is one of the most intense arcs I've ever seen, from moments such as Hinata's receive, Tanaka's spike and even "Let's take it easy", it's packed full of some of my favourite moments in anime.

"I am built upon the small things I do every day, the end results are not more than a byproduct of that" - Shinsuke Kita, this is one of my absolute favorite

A life changing quote from Kita is about getting nervous before a game, and he basically says that guys feel nervous because in their hearts they want to do beyond their current capabilities and that's just ridiculous. For me is okay to want more, but do all the worrying and wanting afterwards.

haikyuu really has such well written characters and storyline like it feels so much more than just a sports anime , it deserves all the popularity it has

The embodiment of 'Kaizen' - The Japanese philosophy of consistent, daily improvement.
  • Kita being a farmer post time-skip, is so iconic. He is undoubtedly the most matured character out there.

I don't think I've ever seen anything that makes me cry as readily as Kita receiving his jersey. And, I have no idea why. Masterful character.

We love Kita. I remember constantly rewinding his backstory because you could never get enough of him and His quiet confidence. One of the best parts of haikyuu is how you subtly root for the other teams as well because of how nuanced the characters are

Shinsuke is the personilisation of Atomic Habits 😂

The best leader is a hero. My favorite hero is an everyman, someone humble, modest, unremarkable on the surface. The only reason this pedestrian is at all notable is due to their strong will and work ethic. Despite their new-found talent and reputation they don't lose themselves. They are the definition of progressive growth, "little by little". To me this is the pure essence of Shonen... Now, whether or not Shonen lives up to this ideal is a whole other can of worms. At the very least it is the ideal most Shonen approach, and the ideal Shinsuke Kita has achieved.

As someone always obsessed with the results, this video really changed my perspective of the work I do everyday. For example guys: if you choose to study or exercise everyday, the results are just the side effects. What's more important is that your actions are showing your discipline and perseverance.

Kita's weapon is his unwavering, exceptional competence. It's something that takes a long time to build up to, but is the fundamental building blocks of his character. It's what makes him so admirable, despite not having the crazy abilities of the Miwas or Kageyama, or Ushiwaka's physical advantages.

Kita's lessons are so important. And I think about similar everytime someone responds to an artist online with "I wish I could draw like that! You're so talented!" and they mean it as praise but it reads as so dismissive. Like, that person probably does have talent. But they've also probably been drawing for thousands of hours, over years of their life. One of the best things that ever happened for my mentality was the day I realized that I didn't want to "learn to draw" I wanted to "know how to draw." My brain wasn't interested in doing the work. Therefore it wasn't a path I could take because I wasn't willing to put in that work. And so whenever I think about it, or see a nice drawing that makes me wish I could do the same, I ask myself the same question "Do you want to learn to do that? Or is this just thinking it'd be nice to have already done that work?" Also important for everything else in life to. Do you want to learn to do that thing? Or do you just wish it was something you'd already done? It can sound depressing at first denying those things. But it also helps find the things where you brain goes "Yeah, I don't care if we suck at this. I want to do it and do it again until I can do something like this!"

I find kita's storyline a bit confusing but the philosophy of greatness being an acumulation of things you do daily, thus greatness is a habit; that's really true and something I try to live by
  • I don't want to say this changed my life after only a few days of watching it, but the 2 weeks after watching this video was the best weeks of my life. I really resonate with Kita's philosophy. He's now my role model. When doing everything, I always think something in the line of "What would Kita do?". Enjoy the process, the daily routine, do things right even the small things, and have confidence in yourself because you did enough. Thank you for this video

I´m of the same opinion as you on Kita´s job post graduation. When I saw the pages/panels, I was like: "Yeah, that´s Kita Shinsuke." It encapsulates everything he stands for. The daily actions and efforts he put into his work, with his yield as the product of this. And that Miya Osamu specifically buys from Kita later on just warms my heart! XD Kita is my favorite Inarizaki player. The way he faces the ordinary, daily life with such earnesty, the way he is so extraordinarily stable and reliable. The care he puts into everything and everyone around him is admirable.

Kita really seems to embody inner peace and actual, fully realized self love. He is himself -content and confidently so. Really impressive writing and wonderful perspective. Just being secure in yourself can change so much about your own self perception and how it translates to your life as a whole
  • @kaibies
Kita was an instant favorite because of this
  • I loved Kita the moment they introduced him! Reminds me a lot of a quote from Bojack Horseman “It gets easier. Every day it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it every day —that’s the hard part. But it does get easier.” We’re always so hard on ourselves, and expect perfection from the get go. Everything takes time, we just need to be patient and consistent. Small progress is still progress.
