David Roback, cofounder of Mazzy Star, died today. Rest in peace, underappreciated genius. 😢

My parents were never the most musical. Honestly, they had a very limited scope and relationship with the art. But for some reason this album was in my father’s cd collection. By some beautiful accident this album became the “lullaby” cd they used to put me to bed. I will forever be grateful for this accident. Hope and Mazzy Star are the musical foundation my life has been built on. My oldest music memories. Their music never fails to make me feel comfort and pain all at once. ❤️

Was not expecting to hear this on True Detective tonight. Been a long time since I listened to it. I recognized it immediately though.
  • This band has a way of just evoking so much personal emotion. It's like opening a floodgate to the dark corners of your mind and just drawing memories in. Whatever they may be.

Still falling Breathless and on again Inside today Beside me today Around broken in two Til your eyes shed into dust Like two strangers turning into dust Til my hand shook with the weight of fear I could possibly be fading Or have something more to gain I could feel myself growing colder I could feel myself under your fate Under your fate It was you breathless and tall I could feel my eyes turning into dust And two strangers turning into dust Turning into dust

RIP Dave. You were a true artist - never seeking fame, only trying to make the best music you could. You will live on forever through your music and all those who are touched by it.
  • I first heard in the House MD. And it is such a emocional song. When I was depressed lonely felt horrible pain and did not have enogh pills years ago Mazzy Star helped me to "survive" and stay in the "hell" at the same time. And that is it. Such a great music. So deep.. *

This is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in my 47 years on this planet.

A track is good when it stops you from what you are doing ,sits you down and makes you reflect on your life ...This one does this perfectly....!!!
  • This song brings a heartbreaking loss to a level of understanding of life long grief. I miss my son so much and love this song as much as he would. Incredible music.

This was the album I used to fall asleep to every night in the 10th grade. So happy to have heard it again on the Handmaids tale today. Glad a new generation will get to love this beautiful dreamy songstress.
  • [Verse 1] Still falling, breathless and on again Inside today, beside me today Around, broken in two Till your eyes shed into dust Like two strangers turning into dust Till my hand shook with the weight of fear [Verse 2] I could possibly be fading Or have something more to gain I could feel myself growing colder I could feel myself under your fate Under your fate [Verse 3] It was you, breathless and torn I could feel my eyes turning into dust And two strangers turning into dust Turning into dust

Since it was first released, I have been glued to this song. It's like a haunting lullaby that tucks me into a pensive, emotional bed. Mazzy Star's albums make up their own playlist on my computer. I never tire of the sound of Hope Sandoval's voice.
  • I was 12 when this came out .. I am 40 now . The only change is that I didn’t appreciate this piece back then , Now listening to it present day it’s tranquil beautiful and haunting . The guitar strings and that voice.. JUST TAKES mE PLACES

The sonic chemistry between David and Hope is eternal... Rest well David we remember you.
  • Ethereal, like dust in a twisting wind. Hypnotic, like a mirage under a blazing sun.
  • @wallabumba
Such a beautiful song. String music always chokes me up. And Hope's voice is sublime.

I got this album in 1994. I would listen to it while on massive amounts of LSD, and not on it. This song is a true masterpiece. It makes me feel better if I'm down. So simple yet so complicated. Music is nothing like this now. Such a shame
