Minnesota's cannabis law: 1 year later the law is still hazy

Published 2024-08-01
It was August 1, 2023, when self-described weed nerds at First Avenue were celebrating the legalization of recreational marijuana. But experts say while Minnesota has come a long way when it comes to legal weed in the last year, it still has a long way to go.

  • Cannabis should be absolutely just as legal and easy to obtain anywhere as alcohol currently is. In every single state. No exceptions. It's so easy: As legal and easy to obtain/use as alcohol currently is. Why hold relatively benign, often healing cannabis to any sort of irrational, stricter double standard than perfectly legal alcohol?

US gov never understands the industries they regulate, its embarrassing.

The government is so slow other states got this completed in months to one year
  • @rjdaire38
I love how they think amateur growers will get 2 lbs off 4 plants. Yes it's possible, but not probable

Its like this state didnt want to put the weed guys out of business. Too bad they didnt have this mentality 20 years ago when they locked up my dad for it.

How about reversing the obscene taxation of tobacco products and stop Minnesota legislative malpractice. Crooks, All.
  • 10 Million? Where is it going? High prices on everything, people are still homeless, without good medical coverage, food, basic needs not being met, and the state still doesn't care. Which politicians are fattening their wallets? Lord knows the public hasn't seen any of the benefits from this money. I love my country, but I fear my government.

The local level is even more hazy. Some city councils have just outright banned it forcing small businesses to close shop and move to a new zip code. Then you have the state limiting each serving to 5 mg. Right now, the only way to get anything that works is to drive to Wisconsin sadly. If you want to buy from the state medical dispensaries, you need a doctors “prescription” lol. Then the state will let you buy “medical” cannabis at the state stores. You will also have to give the state a lot of information about yourself too. It’s the most perverse implementation you could possibly come up with.
  • Section 18. Any person may sell or peddle the products of the farm or garden occupied and cultivated by him without obtaining a license therefor.[3]

All this red tape is stupid. Just leave folks alone and let them enjoy the pot

Less money in the hands of drug cartels. The only positive thing. Less drug use should be promoted. Even though cannabis is a very cool plant.
  • @thublit
Why law? State should be informed it is the Right of people to possess and use.
  • Yet next door in Wisconsin cannabis is still seen as so dangerous by our Republican law makers, that we will still reserve the right to arrest arthritis sufferers who dare use it to treat their symptoms. A lot of Wisconsin money is flowing into all the states surrounding us that have started ending the prohibition.

My jaw dropped when she said shops would probably pop up closer to the end of 2025. Gurrrrrl nobody can’t wait that long. The black market is where it’s at I guess. Cause 200million off just beverages? Ya they getting that money
  • @AKYLE315
