Alternative title: Mac apologizing to the entire country of Japan for 15 minutes straight.
  • As a plus-sized black queer girl who's been dying to go to Japan for years now, I'm glad that I'd still have a good time going there

My partner is 2nd generation Japanese-American and we plan on visiting Japan sometime. As a Latina with very thick curly hair, thank you for the humidity warning. I now know that I need to bring 50 tiny TSA-approved bottles of product. ✌🏾

I'm actually very glad that you didn't record. You deserved a few days to just be in the moment and that's refreshing to see for once. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

regarding the groping problem and the separate train carts for women, i've heard that they have such a big problem with men taking pictures up womens skirts that cellphone companies made the shutter sound on phone cameras permanently on and you cannot turn the sound of the camera off no matter what you do in an attempt to discourage creepy men from being gross... none of that should be necessary but at least is something??? 🤷

As a Japanese person, I'm so glad y'all enjoyed yourselves! Don't worry about not being able to pronounce stuff, honestly as long as you're not Logan Pauling around you're fine. I would not recommend coming in August tho 😅

I swear the first question for any black person that travels is "how racist were they" which is so sad but totally reasonable lmao. I can't speak about Japan, but most of my interactions living in Korea were neutral/positive. You WILL sometimes get stared at, but they're doing that to anybody who looks obviously "foreign". Usually they're either kinda surprised or, just worried you're gonna ask them for directions and they don't know what to tell your ass (can relate). One time an old lady at a bus stop touched my braids but... she was also saying how pretty I was so I didn't have the strength to cuss a grandma out😮‍💨I've gotten stuff worse IN america anyway but anyway, if you're scared of a place, just do your research and go. most people are too concerned with themselves to even care that much about you for more than a minute. don't expect it to be a perfect wonderland, but don't expect it to be absolute hell, either. sometimes people are even nice!!

I'm tearing up from joy. Hearing "most amount of queer people they've ever been around in their entire life." in a positive way? Girl... that makes me so happy, and I couldn't be happier nor more proud of you for being able to give others that experience and to have it for yourself. That's amazing.

“He’s a Pinterest boy… Yes he’s straight, I’m so sorry to tell you that” YOU BETTER BE 😭😭😭

As a person who visits Japan regularly it’s so entertaining to watch when people visit this country for the first time.
  • @neverstoppedme
I took japanese at school, and one of the first things our teacher taught us, as a group of 13 year old girls, was what to do if we were groped on public transport. Back then, it was that much of an issue. I'm so glad that there are now safe spaces for women travelling alone to avoid sexual harassment. Not thrilled it's necessary, but happy it's there.

For anyone planning to visit Japan in the future, best times to come in regards to weather would be May/June and October/November. Avoid August AT ALL COST unless you have no other choice.
  • That trip was so fucking fun! I miss the food so much! I can't look at sushi the same, lol. I also lost pounds from all the walking and humidity, lol, it was exhausting, but I wouldn't trade that experience for the world. If I ever get to go there again though, it'll be not when it's 90 degrees and raining. I hope to go on the next trip you put together, wherever that may be! And yeah, your dad was cool👍
  • @livlinn971
In the name of my Japanese ass I forgive you, dear Mac❤ (Real talk I’m glad y’all enjoyed your trip despite the weather, and yes the humidity and summer in general is insane out here)
  • @CozieGhosty
Girl, thank you about the humidity tip! Braids for Japan!
