Gonna be a senior at NYU in the fall, and I can definitely say that from experience financial aid is something you have to actively work for. Having really good grades and extracurriculars in highschool was what helped me SO much when it came to paying for school. Mind you, my parents make less then $20,000 a year. Work study is really helpful, but my biggest suggestion is to appeal your financial aid if you are a returning student. You'd be surprised how much you can get.

if you are low income do not let that stop you! i’m attending nyu in the fall and i come from a low income family. there are option for you :)
  • @ellogabija
I disagree with the poverty thing. I’m low-income and first gen, and I got a scholarship and fin aid that allow me to go to NYU this fall. FUTURE NYU-ers: DON’T BE DETERRED FROM APPLYING BC OF THE FIN AID!!!!
  • I'm having college midlife crisis now, and I originally heard that NYU is really great- but after reading so many bad reviews and looking at how expensive it is, I'm so confused on what to do. NYU seems so lovely, and I'm applying to colleges this fall, but idk if it's all worth it.

The prestige definitely helps. My friend studied social work at a NY state school, it took him months to find a job. My other friend went to NYU Silver School of Social Work and got a job internship offer a week after he graduated.
  • I’m applying for NYU in the fall and I’m incredibly nervous. Your video was very informative and well said

After stumbling upon this video, it was very interesting to see your different details about NYU. However, my personal favorite was the discussion about financials. I was admitted to NYU ED for the upcoming fall semester. Elated, I was, until I received my financial aid package. Coming from a low-income, working class family, the funds "provided" to me were completely insufficient for me to attend school. The package did not even come close to my FAFSA determined contribution (which might I add was already extremely high). Due to the poor financial aid package given by the NYU financial aid office, I will not be able to attend what was once my dream school. It is sad that you either have to be "very poor or very rich" to attend this school with no financial burdens. Maybe I might try again for grad school, it would be more worth my time and money anyways.

Great job! Very honest and candid assessment of the school. I both went to grad school and worked in "the bureaucracy" there. NYU is not easy. As you mentioned, there are tremendous opportunities available in New York City when you're a student there. I'm glad you're studying journalism! Related to the format of video blogging: If you haven't already, see the movie EIGHTH GRADE. I think you'll really enjoy it.

Name recognition to random people you meet or know isn’t a good indicator of how prestigious a school is. As far the hiring managers, and more important people will know about relatively obscure schools matter than the average person

Thank you for making this video! I am interested in NYU and now, I’ve got a better idea about the school and I feel like I’m more interested because it’s a great school and seems like it would fit me well.

I just graduated from NYU in 2017 and was deciding between NYU and William and Mary!!! I was so distraught and dramatically cried for a week about it prior to seemingly randomly choosing NYU. I had the most amazing experience at NYU and do not regret anything at all, but I also had a sort of fomo from not going to W&M; I just had this feeling that I would have had an equally amazing experience there and would have really clicked with the student body and felt at home. So this is completely fascinating to me to see that you transferred from William and Mary to NYU! I hop e you're loving NYU

Really loved this video and how hilariously true your comments were. I'll be a senior in Stern this fall, and something I definitely didn't know about before coming here was how different and distinct the culture of each school within NYU would be. Stern obviously doesn't have the best reputation among NYU students (understandably) and I always feel like I have to follow up by saying "I'm a nice person I swear!"

I’m applying to NYU Early Decision in November. 🤞🏼 Hoping that I get in. ❤️ thanks for the vid
  • I totally agree with everything you're saying. I'm going into my sophomore year and I'm really thinking about transferring.

This video was so so interesting!! Spilling all the tea girl get it hahha

I'm from Chicago too! I'm going to NYU in the fall as a freshman
  • @erinrenzi3610
NYU is one of my top schools! And i’m interested in journalism as well! Although sometimes I wonder if I’d prefer the publishing industry or creative writing 🤷🏼‍♀️
  • I'm a senior at NYU and I have a lot of friends and some family that attended as well. I strongly disagree that you or your family need to have money for you to there. Yes some people have parents that make good money and can afford to pay the high costs of an NYU education but a majority of students take out loans and work just like any other college. NYU is very inclusive and diversified in terms of race, class and economic background. I hope no one was deterred from attending because of what was said in this video. Student loans student loans student loans!

Just got accepted yesterday! This video was super helpful and excited to see if all for myself this fall!
