As a Norwegian I have to address that the nearest club isn’t over 1400 miles away, only about 330.88 and that’s Bodø Glimt, the club that won 6-1 against Roma in 2021
-
All the OGs remember the number 48

As a Norwegian, I have to point out that the information in the beginning about closest league club. You pointed out Trondheim (Club Rosenberg) which is the second closest club The closest league club is Bodø Glimt in Bodø, which is "just" 533 km from Tromsø . Instead of Trondheim, which is 1129 km from Tromsø

Tromso actually are the northernmost club to ever play in a group stage of any UEFA competition and this a record that will probably never be broken. In the 2005-06 season they played in the UEFA Cup (now called the Europa League) qualifiers after a 4th place finish in the league in 2004. They beat Danish side Esbjerg on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate score in the first round, and in the secod round they managed to beat Galatasaray, a team that won this competition only 5 years prior, 2-1 on aggregate. This meant that they qualified for the group stage. From 2004-2008, this competition had 40 teams in the group stage, 8 groups of 5, and every team would only play every other team once, 2 of theam at home, and 2 of them away. Tromso got 3 points in their group, they started off with a 2-1 home loss to AS Roma, then a 2-0 away loss to Strasbourg. After this they got their first ever gorup stage win, 3-1 at home agaist Red Star Belgrade. They still had a chance to progress to the knockouts before their last game if they got a point, but they lost 4-3 away to Basel and eventually finished last. They also qualified for the 2013-14 Europa League first qualifying round thanks to the Fair Play ranking which gave European places to teams from 1995-2015. Tromso actually nearly qualified thanks to their results as well, but they came 4th in the league and lost the Cup final on penalties to a team that only stayed up in the second division on goal difference. They beat Celje from Slovenia 3-2 on aggregate in the first round, Inter Baku from Azerbaijan 2-1 on aggregate in the second, Differdange from Luxembourg (who themselves pulled off a huge upset beating Eredivisie 5th place Utrecht 5-4 in the 2nd round) on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate score and then in the last round they lost 2-3 to Besiktas. But Besiktas was only temporarily allowed in the qualifiers after they appealed a decision which banned them and Fenerbahce from European competitions because of a match fixing scandal. After the qualifiers, they original ban was upheld and Tromso got into the Europa League group stage in the place of Besiktas, getting 1 point from a 1-1 draw at home to Sheriff Tiraspol from Moldova, but they lost all other matches without scoring another goal, a 2-0 defeat in Moldova, two 1-0 defeats against Anzhi Makhachkala from Russia, and they lost lost to Tottenham 2-0 at home and 3-0 away.
