Stihl BG 56C leaf blower won't run, what's wrong with it?

Published 2022-09-15
Working on a Stihl BG 56C leaf blower that stopped running. Wasn't sure if it was an old fuel problem, air filter, or spark plug problem. Ended up being none of the above! The exhaust was plugged up by mud wasps. I thought to look at the exhaust because every time I would take the spark plug out and put it back in it would sputter and then not fire again no matter what you did to it. Hope this helps!

  • Good job. I have been doing this for 40+ years so don't give up young lady you will get better and better. I look forward to watching you as do. Do not let a machine get the best of you. Good luck.

I’m proud of you for not cursing when you had such a time with that muffler screen removal. 👍🏼

Well done....was wishing you went off and grabbed vice grips to crack bolt...good to watch tho, reminded me of my own failings/stumblings about on it..too easy to treat lightly cause its a small machine but set yourself up comfortably enough with all that you need and its lovely/easy to work on..good machine they are..
  • I have a seized spark arrestor to tackle. I may hit it with some PB Blaster and let it soak. Great job in checking it first!

😊good job Ashley you got it going 🎉 fyi reference you don’t have to take cover off to get to screw in the muffler. Just up the front hole in front of blower you can loosen it up. Great job and proud of you. Not many people would tackle this job.🙏🏻🙏🏻👋

On those things or any Home owner Stihl products always check the spark arrest first.

Good video. When you were struggling with the bolts, just move your work to the ground or get above your work so that you can get leverage. No one has as much strength at chest level as you would have standing over it.

Forgot to shake the gas mix, oil drops out of gas
  • If you haven't already got one, invest in a decent impact driver. You'll be glad you did and they come in handy for a wide variety of projects around the homestead.
  • Good effort but you need a work bench to do a better job ,you are struggling to hold the leaf blower .

Young lady! You need to clobber the Rachel with your hand or a hammer when breaking bolts loose! Impact! And especially on rusty exaust bolts! If you pry hard enough you can twist bolts in half and then you got problems! Always impact to loosen bolts. 😉
