Universal Games: Keep 'em Happy b1.0.3

Published 2023-08-10
Hello! This project took the better part of 8 months to work on (a lot of working on unrelated stuff and whatnot lol). Easily my favorite project now!

-=-=-=Notice
This game is in beta stages and therefore has not been playtested much. Bugs are to be expected, some things may be exceptionally useless or overpowered, stuff may occasionally not activate, it happens. Please simply leave a comment starting with "Bug Report:" to ensure I see it. Thanks!

Do note that with that said, some things have been made intentionally difficult in order to promote other parts of the game. Some bugs may simply receive the reply of "Works as Intended." If this is the case, please don't bash me. I don't want to deal with that.

-=-=-=Tutorial
Couldn't be bothered to make a legit tutorial so I'm just gonna explain it here.

First off, when loading the game, you have 3 main areas: in the top row, your major stats and major functions, beneath that the employees and (whenever I add it in app store) management, and to the right of it all, the technical stats.

The major stats and functions area holds the revenue of your game, in other words, the amount of money you have to spare. Generally speaking, keep this value as high as possible (like 100k+) because stuff gets expensive. Beneath that is the game clock. All systems run off of that clock in one way or another. You can pause and change the simulation speed in the settings menu. Beneath that are the update and advertisement buttons. Updates need to be developed and thus will only be developed when you are in the main menu, or when an employee with the development or playtesting* job get hired. Advertisements give a general boost to the recruitment speed of your servers. They are a blessing and a curse depending on how you use them.

The box beneath the major section presently contains 3 tabs cyclable by the button in the right side of the label. By default, it is on Statistics, which shows stats that wouldn't be needed very often but are still useful. The second tab is employees. Employees can help you automate many tasks such as server maintenance, game updates, and even send notifications that wouldn't normally go through. The third tab is the Hiring tab. Hiring, as the name suggests, is how you get employees. Try to get the best stats!

The sidebar is the last section and contains a lot of information. Starting at the top, there is the game rating. This is how good the game is according to the players. It holds about 1.5x as much weight as Reputation in deciding things for the game. Reputation is the public opinion of your company. Bad experiences, low gameplay quality, and obnoxious advertisements can all decrement your rep, so keep these in check. Servers (%) is the average status of all servers at the moment. It can be useful to see when something's gone awry that was unanticipated. Beneath that is the Players/Adverts section. Players displays the present number of people online and the average for the day. Adverts reports on the number of ads active and available from your employees. There is then a gap beneath that. This gap is where notification cards slide in. Notifications alert of random occurrences that could destroy your company, though many of these functions require notification job employees to send them through. Three buttons then sit beneath this: Maintenance, Achievements, and Settings. Achievements and settings are obvious, maintenance however is where you go to take care of your servers. All server functions are performed in this menu and you need to be able to understand when something is wrong. Below there is your game's version number. Clicking it when underlined will open up Universal Games' version history.

That's a rough explanation of everything. I will probably make a YouTube video later explaining how to actually play this game.

-=-=-=Version History
Version History is located inside the project by clicking on the version history button in the main menu or the version number in the bottom-right corner of the main gameplay screen. Click when the Version number is underlined.
Inside the Version History menu is a statistic titled "AFPSOBL." This stands for "Average Frames Per Second On a Business Laptop" and is meant to give you a rough guess on the performance impact overtime. The Average FPS part was taken on a running game while looking at the main menu after getting out of the startup menu.

-=-=-=Credits
Credits are located in the project inside the settings menu. Click the giant "Credits" button in either the main menu or the settings menu in the main game.
