Pan American was founded in 1927 and flew passengers all around the world even during the Second World War. Pan Am also flew the first commercial flight of 2 of Boeing's most famous jet airliners: the Boeing 707 flown on October,26th 1958, and the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet flown on January,21st 1970. But during the 1973 Oil Crisis, the company turned into a NIGHTMARE to run as Pan Am was flying almost all 747 this almost killed the company. After the crisis though, the company lived on. But only 4 years later there was more bad news. On March,27th 1977 a Pan Am 747 was backtracking on a runway in Tenerife. But what the crew didn't know was that a KLM 747 was roaring down the same runway taking off. The aircraft collided killing 583 passengers and crew. This made it the worst aviation accident in the world. This wouldn't be the only accident for Pan Am's history though. On December,21st 1988 a bomb exploded on a Pan Am 747, and the plane crashed into a town in Scotland killing everyone onboard. With the company losing money rapidly Pan Am filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy and took its last flight on December,4th 1991.
