Melinda Schneider, M.Ed., has been training dogs for five decades. In childhood, I learned the techniques of the day that included pushing a dog's rump to get them to sit and jerking on the leash to get them to walk at your side. As a child, I didn't question those methods but later learned how damaging compulsion can be to the sensitive species we call our best friends.

My training is now led by the dogs. I watch and listen to what dogs are telling me. I pay attention to their emotional state. I make training fun! My business, Fun With Fido, uses games to shape the dog's emotions, psyche, and behavior so that the dog is happier and better fits the picture people have of life with a dog. Most "naughty" behavior is either a lack of understanding by the dog or a result of emotions that are causing discomfort.

My goals in training are 1) a happy dog; 2) a dog who finds training fun and is a willing partner in play; 3) a dog who is responsive to you and is a joyful part of your life.
