Gouramis have a lung-like labyrinth organ that allows them to gulp air and use oxygen. This organ is a vital adaptation for fish that often inhabit warm, shallow, oxygen-poor water. Males build bubble nests then court females. Once she lays an egg, the male takes it to the nest with the others and protects them until they hatch and the babies are free swimming. A highly intelligent, beautiful loving fish. They are sometimes known as the dogs of the fish world. They love to play and interact with their people. There are a wide variety of types from the pygmy "sparkling" gourami to the great "giant" gourami. Love them all. Come and enjoy them with me.
